To catch who’s crowned the ‘King of Skis’ you gotta travel to Japan this winter - it is only for the third time that the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship is scheduled outside Europe and for the first time in Asia.
It will also be the first occasion when the Championship will partly be held indoors, the competition will get underway today - but as early the International Ski Federation has suspended six athletes (Voronin Konstantin, Dmitry Matveev, Jochen Strobl, Alen Abramovic, Sergei Dolidovich, Reto Burgermeister) for five days owing to high hemoglobin levels.
The opening ceremony will begin at 6:00p.m in Sapporo Dome, Japan - and will be succeeded with the Cross-Country event for both genders.
High HB levels in the competitors were detected in pre-competition blood testing; the suspension is a mere precautionary measure considering the athletes health - those suspended can only compete if they clear the second pathology tests.
